Supply Chain Resilience

Supply chain resilience is the capability of a supply chain to ensure continuity of supply in the face of disruption. It implies the ability to: a) proactively plan and design the supply chain network for anticipating unexpected disruptive (negative) events and b) respond adaptively to disruptions while maintaining control over structure and function. Despite numerous supply chain upheavals inflicted by disasters in the last decade, most companies still found themselves unprepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. A lack of quick wins to provide momentum to efforts has resulted in a lack of effective managerial guidance in developing a framework when deploying risk management practices and selecting the best supply chain structures and associated strategies. Approaches to create resilience go beyond process redesign and extend fundamental decisions on sourcing and the establishment of more collaborative supply chain relationships.
